STUDENT LIFE

Competitions
Each of the four challenges for middle school and high school culminates in contests and competitions based in Memphis and the Southeastern Region of the US. There are also national and international levels of competition for which students could become eligible. As students groups prepare to compete for prizes at R3, winning teams and individuals could earn spots on traveling teams and have the opportunity to go head-to-head against peers from other cities, states, and even other countries. As a supplement to the main challenges in middle school and high school, we hope to involve extremely motivated students in challenges from the Technology Student Association.
Small groups of students forming winning teams may also have the opportunity to site-seeing, hiking, and exploring as an added bonus. Pictured above is the 2016-17 MASE Technology Student Association State delegation. The students took an exhilarating hiking trip through the Savage Gulf Natural Area. This year, all four middle school and all four high school challenges have national competitions we hope to qualify for.

Physical Activity
At R3 we believe in developing the whole child. Because of this our program has been design to include some regular physical activity such as group games, dancing, stretching, cardio exercise, and intramural sports. These activity help to build camaraderie, drive, and to get the blood flowing well before teamwork on challenges begins.

Homework and Tutoring Time

Because R3 is an after school program, we realize that time is precious. Homework is a top priority for us. Immediately after the afternoon snack is served, students will be escorted by their teachers back to their rooms to work on the homework assigned at their home schools or to use our online study tools to improve their skills in Science, Mathematics, and English/Language Arts. It is our expectation that every student will demonstrate mastery in these subjects by April of each year. Twelfth grade students will work on post secondary items such as scholarship applications, college admissions, and serving younger grades, garnering community service hours. The homework and tutorial time is included each day to enrich and reinforce the day time school program.
